Scuba-diving in Fiji has become a major activity due to the reefs encircling some of the islands. Divers are drawn to its shallow, translucent lagoons, steep drop-offs and world famous soft corals. Combined with warm waters and 130-foot (40m) visibility, this makes Fiji an underwater paradise.
Some of the best dive sites are in Yasawas, Mamanucas, Nadi and the Coral Coast. Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Tavanui and the Lau group of islands also offer some interesting options. This vast number of sites ensures divers will see a great selection of marine life, caves, corals and reefs. And that divers will keep coming back to Fiji for more, as the different dives can easily fill more than one holiday.
Conditions vary greatly in Fiji and while some places are tranquil and great for learning, most sites will enjoy some current, ranging from barely perceptible to very strong. It is presence of these currents that makes the diving in the Fiji Islands incredible though, as the currents bring in the nutrients.
There are PADI courses available from dive operators and, whether an experienced or novice diver, Fiji is definitely a destination to put on any diver's list of places to visit.
