Hundreds of humpback whales spend the summer off the coast of Maine every year, and many local tour operators offer charter cruises to get up close and personal with the gentle giants. Whale watching season in Maine runs from April to October. Less plentiful but also common are pilot whales, minke whales and finback whales; and if you're lucky you might even see a sperm whale or orca (killer whale). Aside from whales, many dolphins and seals call Maine home.
