Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS)

Overview

Beef Island Airport, or the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS), is a tiny airport serving the British Virgin Islands. The airport takes up most of Beef Island, which is located just 9 miles (15km) from the region's major island of Tortola. The airport only accepts small aircraft (64-seater maximum), and most traffic consists of chartered flights. Nearby Trellis Bay makes for a fantastic last-minute stop on your way out of the country: a last chance to soak up some Caribbean sun before boarding the plane to take you back home.

Location

The airport is situated nine miles (15km) from Road Town, Tortola.

Getting to the city

Taxis are available. Many resorts provide water launches or courtesy vans for their guests.

There are no car rental companies at the airport.

There is a restaurant and bar, and tourist information is available.

Parking

The airport's (uncovered) car park is open daily from 5.30am to 11pm, and is located directly outside the terminal building. Parking is free for the first 30 minutes: thereafter, it's US$1 an hour for up to 4 hours; and 50 cents an hour after that, to a daily maximum of US$10.

Departure Tax

US$15 tax and US$5 security charge payable on leaving the BVI by air.

Most direct flights to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport come from places in the greater Caribbean region, such as San Juan, St Thomas and Montserrat. Airlines offering flights to Thomas B. Lettsome International Airport include Executive Airlines, Winair, LIAT, Cape Air and BVI Airways. It is also possible to book a charter flight to Beef Island Airport through Anguilla Air Services, BVI Airways, Trans Anguilla Airways, VI Air Link and St Barth Commuter.

Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the terminal building at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

Business Lounges

The airport does not have conference or business facilities. However, there are a number of small hotels, restaurants and guest houses in Trellis Bay, which is within easy walking distance of the terminal building.
