Asmara International Airport
Although technically there are three international airports in Eritrea (in Asmara, Massawa and Assab), for a number of years Asmara International Airport has received all international flights and operated as the main hub for domestic flights. Asmara International Airport, formerly known as Yohannes IV International Airport, is a small and simple facility with a single, short runway shared by the military and the public. It is the hub for Eritrean Airlines and operates flights to major cities like Cairo, Johannesburg, Dubai, Rome and Frankfurt, as well as nearby African capitals.
Airlines operating at Asmara International Airport include Eritrean Airlines, Lufthansa, EgyptAir, Nasair, Sudan Airways and Yemenia.
