Pointe-a-Pitre International Airport
Pointe-a-Pitre is located on the island of Grande-Terre, just one mile (2.5km) northeast of the city centre.
Getting to the city
Renting a vehicle is highly recommended, as public transport is very unreliable. Reputable hotels in the area may offer shuttle transfers. Public buses run from 7am-7pm, Monday to Friday, and cost €1 for the 25-minute ride into the city. Cabs are also available from the airport, but are pricey.
Car rental companies are located in an annex building located near the North Terminal after Exit 3. The rental services located there include ADA, Avis, Budget, Car Rental System, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Jumbo Car, Rent a Car and Sixt.
Taxis in Guadeloupe are notoriously pricey, and recommended for use only when there is no other option. A 10-to-15-minute cab ride can cost over €10. Taxis charge a premium after 9pm, and on Sundays and holidays. Agree on a price before letting the driver put the luggage in his cab.
The airport is quite well-equipped with bars and restaurants, snack stands, a small grocery store, fashion store, newspaper stand, currency exchange, medical centre, post office, games arcade, lockers, photo booths and a pharmacy. There is also a place that does beauty treatments, as well as a duty-free store. Two ATMs are available on the ground floor. Meeting rooms and business facilities are also available at a cost.
Both short- and long-term parking options as well as a valet service are available. Rates depend on the time of day, and can be paid at a machine upon exiting.
Pointe-a-Pitre airport offers travellers two free hours of internet per 24 hours, through six different wifi signals. The signals begin with 'ORANGE', and users will need to register in order to get the password to use them. A paid service is also available.
