Overview

A relatively small facility, Des Moines International Airport is located three miles (5km) from central Des Moines, and is a convenient gateway to Iowa and the Midwest.

Processing fewer than two million passengers each year, the airport is basic but very well-run, with a friendly Midwestern attitude and a refreshing lack of long queues. Though amenities are not flashy and luxury brands are noticeably absent, there are a good selection of basic shops and restaurants.

Flights to Des Moines International Airport are available from cities across the US, including busy routes to Chicago, Denver and Minneapolis.

The airport is located five miles (8km) from downtown Des Moines.

Getting to the city

Ground transportation options are located outside across from baggage claim and include taxis serving central Iowa and DART buses into Des Moines. CyRide offers periodic services to Ames based on the Iowa State University schedule.

Facilities at the airport include a restaurant and brewpub, a food court, shops, two ATMs, WiFi access (wireless card required) and a business centre with Internet service. Disabled facilities are good.

Parking

Several parking garages are located adjacent to the terminal, with rates starting at $2 per hour and $5 per day for long-term parking, and $1 per half hour or $24 per day for short-term parking. A free shuttle service operates from the economy lots. Cash and major credit cards are accepted.

There is wifi available throughout the terminal through Boingo, and passengers can purchase browsing time with a credit card through their browser.

Business Lounges

There are business facilities at the airport with internet-ready workstations, phones, and charging points, located in Concourse A. Conference facilities on the Skywalk level can accommodate up to 80 people.
