Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International (MRU)

Overview

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, or Mauritius International Airport, is located approximately 26 miles (48km) south-east Port Louis in Mauritius. It comprises of a single terminal building with Arrivals on the ground floor and Departures on the upper level.

The airport only caters for passengers, which means that there is no landside part of the building. Although generally efficient, passengers at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport should expect some queues or delays during peak holiday season. In general, the airport is exactly what one would expect of an island airport. It has its charm, but what passengers are really after are the beaches once they've exited the airport building.

Location

The airport is 30 miles (48km) south east of Port Louis.

Getting to the city

A regular bus service operates from the airport every 30 minutes, taking an hour to reach Port Louis. The bus fare into town costs just Rs 21 and must be paid onboard. Taxis are available at a fare of Rs 700 and take 45 minutes to reach the capital.

Airport Taxis

Taxis wait outside the terminal. The 45-minute journey into Port Louis costs Rs 700.

Facilities

The airport has a currency exchange office and branches of Barclays Bank, Mauritius Commercial Bank and the State Bank of Mauritius. There are duty-free shops in the arrival and departure lounges, and various other shops selling handcrafts, books and souvenirs. There is a post office on the public terrace open from 8am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays, and 8am to 11:45am on Saturdays. There is a restaurant in the departure lounge and on the arrivals terrace, and a bar in the departure lounge.

Parking

Parking at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport costs a minimum of Rs 20 for 24 hours or a part thereof, and the monthly rate is Rs 550.
