Overview

The large, yet well-designed Pittsburgh International Airport has plenty of shops, restaurants and amenities on offer for travellers from across the world. The airport is well connected to central Pittsburgh via bus and is located just 20 miles (32km) from the centre of town.

Pittsburgh International Airport is the second busiest airport in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia International. It's the perfect airport to use to access the scenic city of Pittsburgh, with its varied architecture nestled in between bridges, rivers and steep hills throughout the city.

Location

The airport is located 14 miles (22km) west of central Pittsburgh.

Getting to the city

Several limousine, taxi and shuttle bus services operate from the airport, providing transport to the city and nearby centres. Public transportation is limited to the Port Authority Transit's 28X Airport Flyer, which departs roughly every 30 minutes, connecting to central Pittsburgh for approximately $3.75. All public transport and taxi ranks are situated on the baggage reclaim level of the Landside Terminal.

Car rental

The major car hire companies, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National and Thrifty are represented at the airport, their desks being situated on the baggage claim level of the Landside terminal. There is a short walk to rental car parking lots at the airport's covered garage.

Transfer between terminals

The Landside and Airside terminals are linked by a walkway.

Facilities

There are a wide variety of shops, restaurants and bars in the two terminals. There are also ATMs, currency exchange services and an information desk in the Landside Terminal. Disabled facilities are good.

Parking

Short-term parking is available just outside the terminal. It costs $1 for the first hour, and $4 per hour thereafter, up to $24 per day. Long-term parking at Pittsburgh International Airport cost $13 per day, and the extended-stay lots are just $8 per day.

Flights to Pittsburgh International Airport are available on a number of regional airlines such as US Airways, Southwest Airlines and Continental Airlines.
