James Bond Beach

Fans of 007 will not want to miss a visit to James Bond Beach, where the 1962 film Dr. No launched the career of Sean Connery. The pristine stretch of sugary white sand, surrounded by lush mountains and lapping crystalline waters, is located just 20 minutes from Ochos Rios and is a great place to escape the crowds. There is a beautiful, icy cold waterfall flowing into the sea. The roads to the beach are not great but this is probably one of the factors that keeps it so delightfully secluded. A really lovely way to visit is to hire a boat and sail over from one of the resorts. You can also organise glass-bottomed boat tours from the beach, which is a great way to explore the coastline (you may even see turtles or other exciting marine life). Those looking for a bit of excitement should catch a 'waverunner' tour, which takes 007 fans past the famous Golden Eye villa, where Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond novels. When you've had your fill of the beach, head over to the nearby Moonraker Jamaican Bar & Grill for a bite to eat with stunning views and good local food. There have been reports that the beach was damaged during Hurricane Sandy but the gorgeous blue water will no doubt still beckon visitors in for a swim. There is a small charge for admission.
