Airports in Sao Paulo
Guarulhos International Airport (GRU)
Overview
Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport is generally known as Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport and is one of the main entry and exit point for those travelling to Brazil. Sao Paulo International handles over 26 million passengers each year. However, the high volume of air traffic means that over a quarter of flights at Sao Paulo International experience delays of more than 15 minutes.
The airport is being revamped and upgraded ahead of the FIFI
World Cup in 2014. The development planned for the airport includes
an express railway into town as well as a third runway and
terminal.
Location
The airport is located 16 miles (30km) northeast of Sao Paulo.
Getting to the city
Taxis are available outside the terminals; visitors are advised to take the prepaid taxis, they are usually a little more expensive but give peace of mind. There is also an airport shuttle bus, which drops off at the main hotels. Public buses are also available.
Time
GMT -2 (GMT -3 between the third Sunday in October to the third Sunday in March).
