The Vancouver climate is temperate in comparison to the rest of Canada and is more comparable to London, England, than London, Ontario. Winters are wet and cold, although temperatures rarely drop below 32°F (0°C). Summers are hot and sunny, with a daily maximum of 72°F (22°C) in July and August. However, temperatures can reach up to 86°F (30°C) and up. Snowfall in the city is rare with most occurring on the mountains. The Coast Mountains, north of Vancouver, receive plenty of snow, allowing for excellent skiing and boarding conditions in Whistler. Whistler can get very cold, with occasional blizzards, although temperatures are usually fairly moderate, with a 12°F (-10°C) average in the valley and 5°F (-15°C) on the peaks during the coldest part of the year. Average daily alpine temperature during most of the winter months is 22°F (-5°C).
