What to see in San Diego

San Diego Attractions

Easygoing San Diego offers plenty of entertainment for holidaymakers, with lots of the city's attractions revolving around the lovely coastline and marine life. Top San Diego tourist attractions include the endlessly popular Sea World; the picturesque Seaport Village, with its many harbour side shops and restaurants; Mount Soledad, which boasts spectacular views of the city; the Cabrillo National Monument, marking the spot where European explorers first arrived on the US west coast in 1542; the pedestrianised Old Town and the quaint Gaslamp District where some of the best restaurants can be found; and the animal attractions of San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park.

Of course, the beaches are a big draw card in San Diego. The best beaches include the big South Carlsbad State Beach; the beautiful La Jolla Cove; Mission Beach, which is a good spot for active activities; La Jolla Shores, the perfect place in San Diego to learn to surf; laid-back Pacific Beach, popular with young locals; Blacks Beach, frequented by surfers and sometimes nudists; and Coronado Beach, probably the best family beach in the city.

Those planning to do a lot of sightseeing should consider purchasing the Go San Diego Card, which offers discounts on about 47 top San Diego attractions.
