The climate of Pensacola is subtropical, with hot, moist summers and mild winters. Hot summer days are usually relieved by short-lived early evening thunderstorms. Winters are cool, with the odd night when the temperature drops to freezing or lower. Snow is a rarity, but light falls have been recorded. The city, situated on the Florida Panhandle, is vulnerable to hurricanes which have devastated the city in the past.
