Tampa Bay's climate is subtropical to tropical, with wet, warm summer weather and cooler, drier conditions in winter (October to February). Rainfall is heaviest from May to October and humidity in this period tends to be high. Temperatures in summer can reach a high of 90°F (32°C), while winter is more moderate, with temperatures lingering around 65°F (18°C). Thunderstorms are common in summer, particularly in the afternoon, and tornadoes can occur. Tampa also experiences a high incidence of lightening strikes.
