Fou de Fafa
Not yet on the radar of most tourists, Fou de Fafa is tucked away in a side street and easy to miss if you don't know it's there. The menu is influenced by Mediterranean cuisine, so while it's still very French, there's a difference to the more Provençal restaurants in Avignon. Run by an expat British couple, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food draws raves.

Au Tout Petit
With a name meaning 'teeny tiny', Au Tout Petit is a great place to go for an intimate dinner in Avignon. Just remember to book ahead, as there are only eight tables. The menu is inventive, putting a spin on French classics with dishes like apricot tarte tatin with rosemary ice cream, ravioli salad with ginger and geranium cream, and tuna carpaccio with vanilla. Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday.
