The main areas for shopping on Thassos are in Limenas, the island's capital, and in the holiday resorts. In Limenas there are many souvenirs shops, boutiques, gift shops, supermarkets, bakeries, butcheries and electrical shops. Pottery, leather goods and embroidered linens are also available, as are good quality clothes, shoes, jewellery and antiques. The best Thassos souvenirs are local products such as thyme-scented honey and olive oil, Thassos marble and olive wood carvings, and (of course!) ouzo.

In the older, less-commercialised villages the locals tend to grow a lot of their own food and make much of what they need themselves; as a result, some charming crafts and food stuffs (olives, wine, honey) can be found. Many of these are available from the Prinos street market on Monday mornings. At the coast most shops are near the beach, and in the mountain villages they are generally found in the village centre. The touristy resort shops are often not really the real thing and the souvenirs are kitsch and mass-produced, so it is better to seek out the locals themselves. You are also likely to get better bargains at the markets and stalls than in the resort shops.
