Zakynthos Climate and Weather
Zakynthos enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. Summers are gently cooled by breezes, called 'Meltemia', experienced by a number of the more northern islands in Greece. Zakynthos experiences a fairly heavy rainfall during winter which, together with the fact that it has a number of underground springs, is what makes it greener and more fertile than many other Greek islands. Rainfall is unlikely in summer, which is peak tourist season, and can get swelteringly hot which makes the breezes a relief. For those who prefer to skip the crowds of summer - July and August are the busiest months - it is also wonderful to visit Zante during late spring and early autumn. In May the weather has already warmed up and the sea is usually beginning to be pleasant for swimming; it is also a pretty time on the island as it is at its most lush after the rainy season. September is a good month too as the water is as warm as in summer and the weather is balmy without being uncomfortably hot. In spring and autumn there may be passing rain showers but for the most part it is sunny.
