Airports in Bangalore

Bengaluru International Airport (BLR)

Overview

Bengaluru International Airport is the revamped gateway to southern India, and is a conspicuously modern and impressive facility. It is situated 25 miles (40km) from central Bangalore. The airport is also one of the top five busiest airports in India, and its air-conditioned terminal building provides welcome relief to sun-soaked travellers traversing the subcontinent. Local low-cost carriers Kingfisher Airlines, Deccan Aviation and Blue Dart Aviation all use Bengaluru International Airport as a hub. Over 20 international carriers offer flights to Bengaluru International Airport from major cities in North America, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Bengaluru International Airport is a gateway to the 'Silicon Valley of India', as well as many other must-visit Indian destinations such as the backwaters of Kerala, the mystical charms of Mysore and the hedonistic beaches of Goa.

Location

The airport is located in Devanahalli, 18 miles (29km) north of downtown Bangalore

Getting to the city

A high-speed rail link between the airport and the city has been planned for the airport, but unfortunately it is not yet in operation. There is no public bus service between the airport and central Bangalore yet, but the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) does offer a shuttle service called 'VayuVajra'. The most current BMTC fares, routes and schedules are displayed in the arrivals hall just before the exit.
