Tehran Climate & Weather

Tehran Climate and Weather

Tehran has a semi-arid, continental climate. The city's climate is defined by its geographic location with the Alborz mountain range to the north and the central desert to the south. Summers in Tehran, from June to August, are hot and dry with temperatures of 93°F (34°C) to 109°F (43°C). During the summer months Tehran experiences very little rain with average precipitation levels of 0.1 inches (3mm) per month. However, relative humidity is low and evenings are cool. Most of Tehran's rainfall occurs during the spring and autumn. Winters, from December to February, are very cold with temperatures falling to between 9°F (-13°C) and 35°F (2°C) and light snow showers are common. It is important to note that due the city's large size and the difference in elevation between districts, visitors will find that the weather is often cooler in the northern hills than in the southern lowland areas.
