Although Ireland is notorious for wet weather, Dublin is dryer than most areas, receiving only half as much rain as the western regions. Rain showers are nevertheless likely at any time of year, and winters are very wet, an average of 76mm falling during December, which is the rainiest month. The climate of Dublin is maritime temperate, with cool summers and mild winters. The sunniest months in Dublin are May and June, when temperatures hover around the 68°F (20°C) mark. Winters are cold and wet but never freezing, with snow a rarity.
