Sunshine is the order of nearly every day in Las Vegas, but despite being located in the Mojave Desert, the city is not always sweltering hot. Summers are, of course, blistering with temperatures usually above 100ºF (38ºC) during July and August, and the air very dry. Winters, however, are a good deal cooler with a daytime average of 60ºF (16ºC) and very cold nights when the mercury plunges close to freezing. The weather in Las Vegas is seldom rainy, with showers occurring infrequently during January and March. In summer Las Vegas sometimes experiences a touch of the Mexican monsoon, bringing brief thunderstorms in the late afternoons.
