Auckland International Airport (AKL)

Overview

New Zealand's primary airport, Auckland International Airport serves more than 13 million passengers each year and is the main gateway to the remote island nation. Locally known as Mangere Airport, the facility is located 13 miles (21km) south of Auckland's city centre.

One of the busiest airports in Australasia, Auckland International Airport has consistently won awards for its efficient service and good infrastructure, providing a good first and last impression of New Zealand to international visitors. The airport received a massive upgrade in 2005, and was again given a facelift for the 2011 Rugby Worlds Cup, held in several cities across the country.

Location

The airport is situated 14 miles (22km) south of Auckland.

Getting to the city

An Airbus bus service leaves regularly (every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night) for the city centre and costs NZ$15 for a single ticket. Shuttle buses also offer economical transportation between the airport and city or suburbs on a 'shared ride' basis. Maxx also offers public transport to and from the city and surrounding areas.
