Airports in Wellington
Wellington International Airport (WLG)
Overview
The Rugby World Cup hosted by New Zealand in 2011 meant that Wellington International Airport was upgraded in time for the event. Situated in Rongotai suburb, a short drive from central Wellington, the airport is a great introduction to New Zealand as it showcases sweeping views of the Cook Strait, which separates the North and South Islands.
While Wellington International Airport is the third busiest airport in New Zealand, only three international carriers offer flights to the airport. However, many domestic carriers connect the airport to most other airports in New Zealand, including Christchurch and Auckland. The airport itself is well connected to the rest of Wellington by the city's efficient public bus network.
Location
The airport is situated five miles (8km) east of Wellington.
Getting to the city
The Stagecoach Flyer bus will cost between NZ$2.00 and NZ$17.00 for an adult fare, depending on where you are going. Shuttle services and taxis all go to the city centre for around NZ$15 and NZ$30 respectively.
Time
Local time is GMT +12 (GMT +13 from the last Sunday in October to the last Sunday in March).
