Airports in Wellington
The Rugby World Cup was hosted by New Zealand in 2011, and Wellington International Airport was upgraded in time for the event. It is situated in Rongotai suburb, a short drive from central Wellington. The airport is a great introduction to New Zealand as it showcases sweeping views of the Cook Strait, which separates the North and South Islands.
While Wellington International Airport is the third busiest airport in New Zealand, very few international carriers offer flights to the airport. However, many domestic carriers connect the airport to most other airports in New Zealand, including Christchurch and Auckland. The airport itself is well connected to the rest of Wellington by the city's efficient public bus network.
The airport is situated five miles (8km) east of Wellington.
