Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL)

Overview

The largest airport and primary gateway to the Philippines, Ninoy Aquino International Airport is a huge facility serving roughly 27 million passengers each year. Situated 4.3 miles (7km) south of Manila, the airport serves as a hub for all of the Philippines.

Despite its popularity, international flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport go through Terminal 1, which is an old facility considered among the worst in Asia. Crowded and hot, the terminal is confusing to navigate and operates over capacity. Hopefully this will improve in the future as international flights are shifted to the modern Terminal 3.

Flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport come in from major cities all over Asia and Oceania, and there are a few long-haul flights to destinations like Detroit, Dubai and Amsterdam.

Location

The airport is situated four miles (7km) south of the centre of Manila.

Getting to the city

Train: The Metro-Rail Transit station at Baclaran is 3 miles (5km) from the airport, and trains run regularly between 5am and 10pm. There is an airport shuttle that operates between the Terminal 3 and the station for PHP 20, or you can take a taxi or jeepney.

Taxi: Yellow taxi cabs leave from the stands outside each terminal. They charge a flagdown rate of PHP 70 in addition to a fee of PHP 4 per 250m. Coupon taxis, with desks in the terminals, charge a flat rate depending on the destination and are often cheaper.

Bus: There is an airport bus service that travels to the city centre every 15 minutes or so for about PHP 50. There's also a city bus service that leaves from outside the arrivals areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
