The climate of Moscow is continental, with warm summers and bitterly cold winters. Winter sets in early, the first snowfalls occurring in October, and persists well into May. By November snow blankets the city, and temperatures stay well below freezing point for the duration, with few hours of daylight. Summers can be humid with warm temperatures. Precipitation is mainly in the form of winter snow, but there can be showers during summer.
