Charleston Transport

Transport

Charleston is fairly compact and it is easy to explore many attractions on foot or on a rented bicycle. To visit plantations and other attractions outside the city, however, a car is the best option. In the city a comprehensive and efficient bus service covers most areas, operated by CARTA (Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority). A regular bus fare is $1.75 and a day pass costs $6. The most useful public transport for visitors is the trolley system (DASH), which offers free transport in the historic downtown area every day of the week. It is possible to reach many of the city's top attractions on the trolley system. Taxis are available but must be called for.
