Restaurants in Taipei
Taipei, a truly cosmopolitan city, is home to a huge range of
high-quality restaurants and snack bars. Typical Taiwanese food is
derived from mainland Chinese cuisines, such as Szechuan, Hunan,
Beifang and Cantonese cooking styles, though there is an
ever-expanding market for foreign food restaurants as well. You
will be able to eat what you like in Taiwan, and for very
reasonable prices - although, to be expected, the more 'foreign'
the food is (and especially if it contains cheese), the higher the
price will be. The sheer amount of restaurants in Taiwan makes it
impossible to draw up a definitive list of recommended eateries,
but the following are popular amongst foreigners: Din Tai Fung (for
dumplings), Tainan Tan Tsu Mien (for noodles), Amigos (Mexican) and
Sumi Sushi. The excellent, award-winning blog 'A Hungry Girl's
Guide to Taipei' (hungryintaipei.blogspot.com) is an indispensable
resource, that will ensure that you never pick a dud restaurant
while on holiday in Taipei.
