The climate of Memphis is continental, divided into four distinctive seasons. Summers are hot and humid, moist air coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. In winter temperatures can drop below freezing, and snow is usual. The weather in Memphis during spring and autumn is changeable, with severe conditions like thunderstorms and strong winds occurring. Memphis experiences a great deal of rainfall, but it comes mostly in the form of thundershowers and seldom causes cloudy days.
