Airports in Abu Dhabi
Second only to Dubai International, Abu Dhabi International Airport (AHU) is one of the biggest and busiest airports in the United Arab Emirates. Serving roughly 11 million passengers each year, the airport handles flights from all over the world, including major destinations in Europe, Africa, North America and Asia, and is currently building extensions to be able to handle up to 20 million people per year by 2016.
Located 20 miles (32km) from Abu Dhabi's city centre, Abu Dhabi International Airport has three terminals; Terminals 1 and 2 handle most of the international traffic, while the third is a luxurious terminal dedicated to passengers on Etihad Airways. While the airport can be chaotic, especially at peak times, it has modern facilities including shops, restaurants and services designed for an efficient introduction to the UAE.
The airport is 20 miles (32km) east of Abu Dhabi.
Getting to the city
Taxis are readily available (rates are fixed for trips to the city centre) while bus 901 goes to the city and stops outside Arrivals at terminal 1 and 2. It operates on an hourly basis, 24-hours a day and a single ticket costs 3 dirhams. Limousine taxis are located outside the Arrival halls of Terminals 1 and 2. Two major companies operate from the airport, namely Fast and National Taxi companies. CityHoppa runs shuttle vans and private cars from the airport to Abu Dhabi city centre.

A smaller, secondary airport serving Abu Dhabi, Al Ain International Airport is located eight miles (18km) northwest of Al Ain, a popular resort city in the United Arab Emirates. Only seven airlines operate from the facility, offering flights to Al Ain International Airport from regional destinations like Qatar, Jordan, Sudan, Oman, Pakistan and India.
The facilities at Al Ain International Airport are basic, but the airport itself is pleasant, even providing a picnic area and playground in the landscaped gardens; there are also a selection of restaurants and duty-free shops.
