Carrasco International Airport (MVD)

Location: The airport is situated 11 miles (18km) to the east of central Montevideo in the suburb of Carrasco.Time: GMT –3 (GMT –2 during daylight saving time).Contacts: Tel: +598 (0)2 906 463.Transfer to the city: Buses and metered taxis run by various companies are available for the trip into Montevideo, which takes around half an hour. Commuters should have Uruguayan Pesos for the fare and some tickets can be bought prior to travel from the arrivals hall.Car rental: Avis, Europcar and Hertz car rental companies are represented at the airport.Facilities: The airport, which is privately run, is currently undergoing a major refurbishment with the building of a new terminal, due to be completed in 2009. The existing terminal provides adequate facilities, including a duty free shop, a few coffee bars and cafeterias, and a currency exchange agency (cambio).Departure tax: An embarkation tax of US$12 is payable on international departures and a tax of US$6 to Buenos Aires.
