Seattle's climate is mild and generally wet all year, although June, July and August are the driest periods. Seattle falls in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains and although the city actually receives less rain than some American cities on the East Coast, its reputation as the 'rainy city' comes from the fact that skies remain cloudy about 226 days a year. Daytime temperatures are usually mild throughout the year, moderated by the sea. Summer temperatures average about 75°F (24°C), while winter temperatures rarely drop below 32°F (0°C) with little snowfall. Perhaps the best time to travel to Seattle is from April to November as there is less chance of rain, and summer days tend to be longer.
