General Mitchell International Airport (MKE)

Overview

Located five miles (8km) south of Milwaukee in Wisconsin, General Mitchell International Airport is a convenient travel hub not only for Milwaukee, but for Chicago as well, 85 miles (138km) to the south.

Excellent public transportation as far as Chicago makes the airport a viable alternative to busier airports like O'Hare and Midway General Mitchell is a small facility serving roughly 10 million passengers each year on mostly regional flights. The airport's busiest route is to nearby Minneapolis, however flights are available to Atlanta, new York, Las Vegas, Washington DC, and a few major cities in Canada and Mexico.

While the amenities at General Mitchell International Airport aren't dazzling, there are good restaurants and shops to browse, including the Rennaissance Book Shop, a great used book store. The airport also has an aerospace museum, the Mitchell Gallery of Flight.
