Rhode Island International Film Festival
The Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) is New England's largest film festival, and each year, draws nearly 30,000 cinema lovers and scores of talented independent film-makers to the Ocean State. Screening more than 200 short and feature-length films, many of which enjoy their international premières at the festival, the RIIFF still manages to raise an intimate atmosphere, characterised by informed and appreciative audiences. Historically, the great strength of the festival has been its short film line-up - and it was rewarded for this track record in 2002, when it became an official qualifying festival for the Academy Awards. Celebrity sightings are commonplace at the RIIFF, and summer-time visitors to Rhode Island should be sure not to miss out on what it is often described as 'one of the best International and short film festivals in the USA'.
