Independence Day

Few countries can match the fervour with which Lebanon celebrates its Independence Day, with nationwide festivities breaking out on the 22nd of November each year. Celebrating the moment in 1943 when France finally relinquished its mandate over Lebanon, Independence Day is an emotional occasion, where Lebanese citizens are reminded of the freedoms they fought so dearly to secure. The celebrations are marked by considerable pomp and excitement - especially in Beirut, where a grand military parade, featuring Lebanese dignitaries, proceeds through the downtown area.
