Night of the Radishes
Known locally as Noche de Rábano, the Night of the Radishes festival is an unusual event distinctive to Oaxaca. The celebration's roots go back to the Christmas traditions of Dominican Monks, who would use elaborately-carved radishes to decorate their tables for holiday feasts. Now a number of local artisans compete to show off their intricate creations in an event sponsored by the city each December. While the event lasts only a few hours, it is wildly popular and the main square is usually packed with people.
Venue: Plaza de la Constitución
