Holland Food and Flowers Festival
A huge plant and flower show, the Holland Food and Flowers Festival is an annual riot of colour and fragrance with a vast array of tulips, irises, daffodils and other blooms covering the halls. An accompanying fair showcases hundreds of house and garden products. The Netherlands has a flourishing agricultural sector and the famous blooms, which draw travellers from all over the world, are the result of advanced expertise and technology making it arguably the best country in the world to visit if you want tips on growing flowers and vegetables. This festival allows visitors to learn about the seed industry, taste all sorts of foods, learn about the origins of flowers and vegetables, select and pick their own flowers and much more. Various exhibitions and workshops are conducted on everything from cultivating seasonal vegetable gardens to flower arranging. Of course, for many visitors, just wandering among the myriads of blooms and smelling the fragrance is reason enough to pay a visit to the festival. For those wanting to explore spring gardens, as opposed to learn about cultivation etc, the best time to visit the Netherlands is between late March and early May, when Keukenhof is open.
