Fish Fry Fridays
Fish fries are a tradition in the Caribbean, given the areas plentiful delicious fresh seafood. Fro many years now, locals have gathered together to fry fresh fish together, turning the cooking and eating of their local staple into a fun social gathering. Due to their growing popularity, fish fries are now hosted by several restuarants and at several markets in the Bahamas. Grand Bahama Island is home to the B.T.V.I. Eatery, which indulges visitors' taste buds with its weekly Fish Fry Fridays. Local culinary delights include the obvious fried fish, as well as conch fritters, conch salad, conch 'n grits, macaroni and cheese, potato bread and guava duff. B.T.V.I Eatery is located right next to the College of the Bahamas campus, which means that there is always guaranteed to be a big lively crowd of students ready to party the night away. The evening starts off with visitors watching the fish fry prparations and having a few drinks, followed by the extensive and delicious meal along with some more drinks. Once the meal is over, though, the evening certainly isn't. Patrosn stay on at B.T.V.I for hours after dinner, having more drinks, and as as the evening wears on a dance party usually develops. Combined with the ambient Caribbean atmosphere, this occasion is enough to make anyone feel truly relaxed, and a perfect way to really experience what the fun, laid-back Bahamas lifestyle can be like.
