With some of the best blue flag-certified beaches on Lesvos, Skala Eressos (or Skala Eressou) is a popular destination for tourists in Greece. The town is part of the legend of the classical Greek poet Sappho, and carries the flag for women-friendly tourism in the region. Consequently Skala Eressos has been a site of pilgrimage for many international lesbians, but is increasingly popular with families and other groups. The town itself has a number of bars, restaurants, and shops, and is a hub for alternative vacation activities like tai chi, reiki, shiatsu and ayurvedic massage.
