Relax at Vallodolid, Yucatan © larry&flo Mexico's busiest port, Manzanillo is a growing tourist destination and port of call on the southwestern coast of Mexico. Known for its beautiful golden beaches, including Salahua, Las Hadas, and Miramar, the town also has a golf course, and an excellent archaeological museum, as well as a number of good restaurants and bars.
Known as the 'sailfish capital of the world', it's no wonder that sport fishing is among the top activities in Manzanillo. Other water-based activities are sailing or kayaking to Isla Navidad, scuba diving and snorkelling along the coral reefs and shipwrecks, and surfing. The best surfing in Manzanillo is just up the coast in Playa Miramar, Playa la Audiencia and Playa Olas Altas. Serious surfers can head further north to Barra de Navidad.
A peculiar phenomenon Manzanillo is known for is the 'green flash' that appears in the sky at sunset. This can be viewed from any altitude, and is best viewed from the beach.
