Most widely known as the site of the 1980 Winter Olympics, Lake Placid is a popular resort in the Adirondacks with plenty of attractions, particularly for active and outdoor-minded visitors, no matter what time of year you visit.

Summer in Lake Placid takes advantage of idyllic weather for activities like mountain biking, hiking, boating, waterskiing, swimming, horseback riding and more. In the winter, visitors can take advantage of Olympic facilities to enjoy cross country and downhill skiing, ice skating, ice climbing, sleigh rides, and even speed skating. The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival livens up the often freezing winter atmosphere, and in late February the smell of freshly-boiled maple syrup fills the air.

There are a few shops in Lake Placid, along with a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars. While the nightlife is lively, it is still relaxed and lacks any real party scene. A holiday in Lake Placid is more about relaxing and enjoying the outdoors than clubbing.
