Bobby & Carol:
Los Gigantes is such a nice resort. The main part by the Marina is great, there's loads and loads of places to eat and lots of cafes and bars. While you're there you must go on a boat ride to see th dolphins and the whales. Wonderful experience.

Los Gigantes |
Overview Los Gigantes (The Giants) is aptly named after the Acantilados
de los Gigantes; large, striking cliffs that surround this
attractive holiday resort. The resort is set on the west coast of
Tenerife and is essentially joined together with its neighbours,
Playa la Arena and Puerto Santiago, to provide visitors with an
exciting resort experience. A concerted effort has been made not to
destroy the natural beauty of the town and as such there are none
of the towering hotels common to other Spanish tourist resorts. The
scenery is dominated by a rocky cliff which is 2,600 feet (800
metres) high in places.
Shopping Uphill from the marina is the resort's commercial centre, with
plenty of shops ranging from supermarkets to upscale fashion
boutiques and a convenient pedestrian zone near the church. The
nearby village of Masca also has a few independent souvenir shops
that sell unique items like local pottery, liquor made from bananas
or honey, and embroidered tablecloths and clothing.
Restaurants There are quite a few restaurants and bars at the marina, and
seafood is a local specialty. While at the popular holiday
destination of Los Gigantes, it's essential to sample the fine
cuisine at Krishna's. El Rincon de Juan Carlos and Jardin del Sol
also garner rave reviews from foodies and casual diners alike.
Guests may not smoke indoors in most restaurants, but smoking is
allowed on covered verandas and in marked areas.
Nightlife Much of the live music and entertainment in Los Gigantes is
provided by the hotels and restaurants. You'll hear jazz, salsa,
rock and roll, and local Tenerife folk music called Tenderete. Most
of the bars and clubs in the resort are centred in Santiago
bajo.
Activities Los Gigantes has a lovely, upmarket marina, which visitors can
use as a starting point for boat trips to explore the imposing
cliff-faces, enjoy dolphin and whale watching excursions or trips
to neighbouring resorts. The resort's small beach has black
volcanic sand with good swimming and neighbouring Playa la Arena
offers a larger version. There are also a number of watersports and
activities such as big game fishing on offer, and those who hire a
car will find many interesting sights and sounds in the surrounding
areas. A not-to-be-missed event in the town is the annual carnival
held in the week after Ash Wednesday and visitors will find that
although Los Gigantes is not party central, there is still plenty
to see and do year round.
Negatives The streets of Los Gigantes itself are very narrow, however, and
there is a confusing system of one-way streets to take into
consideration.
Activities
Boat Trips from Tenerife
There are a huge number of companies offering boat trips to
tourists and these vary from a 'booze cruise' on a cruiser offering
lunch, drinks and watersports to a trip around the island on a
sailing boat or catamaran. One of the main attractions is the
chance to see whales and dolphins in the wild. Visitors on most
trips spot whales, while dolphins are not so much of a certainty
but are often seen very close to the boat. Trips go from either
Puerto Colon in Playa de las Americas, or from the port at Los
Cristianos and most operators offer a free bus service from the
larger hotels in the main resorts.
Big Game Fishing around Tenerife
The Canary Islands are one of the best spots in the world for
big game fishing and there are a number of companies who offer
fishing trips in Tenerife. While blue marlin are the most highly
prized trophy fish, there are plenty of other species including
white marlin, wahoo, dorado, yellowfin tuna, and mako and
hammerhead sharks. Regular catches of blue marlin range from 331 to
496 pounds (150 to 225kg).
