Tour Operators - Southern Crossings

Just finished a tour of Peru with Southern Crossings Tours and Travel and promised I would write them a review. Thanks for everything in Peru! The entire trip went so smoothly and we had a great time and I have never eaten so well away from home. That was a great idea to spend a few hours in Miraflores last night. We had a very pleasant afternoon and an excellent dinner. And while the dinner still wasn't expensive by my standards, it would have cost three times that much in the U.S., we could have fed ten of us in Cusco for the same price. Guides, transfers, everything was great and we will definitely be recommending Southern Crossings to friends and family.

I took the Inka Trail package from Southern Crossings and discovered that I had paid them to subcontract the hike to SAS tours (in a much larger group than promised). AS near as I can tell, Southern Crossings booked me into two hotels, one group Cuzco tour, gave me six rides to and from airport to hotel and did not give me information I needed for the hike. I\'m probably overlooking something but for that minimal amount of effort -- about five phone calls and seven taxi rides -- they charged me about 800 dollars over the actual cost of things. If you want to save the money, book directly from SAS -- they were very good and their webpage gives you much better information about what you need to know for the Inca Trail hike -- and use Lonely Planet guide to locate and book hotels direct.
