The climate of the Dominican Republic is tropical, its maximum and minimum temperatures never straying far above or below the annual average, which is 77°F (25°C). While temperature variation allows for little discrepancy in the seasons, rainfall is very distinctly seasonal. On the north coast the wettest months are October through to April, with May to November being rainy season in the south. The south is also prone to being struck by hurricanes during August and September. The best time to travel to the Dominican Republic to escape the worst of the humidity is between November and April, which is when the island plays host to many North Americans on a winter break.
