Airports in Indonesia
Ngurah Rai Airport is located nine miles (13km) south of Denpasar, the capital of Bali. Formerly known as Denapsar International Airport, the facility was renamed for a war hero from the Indonesian Revolution in 1946.
The airport processes more than 11 million passengers each year, well over its eight million capacity, making it crowded and chaotic. Expansion plans are underway, however the construction currently adds to the chaos rather than alleviating it. Peak travel times are especially busy, with long and chaotic queues.
Flights to Ngurah Rai Airport come from destinations around Asia and the Pacific region, including cities like Bangkok, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Phuket, Hong Kong, Seouls, Brisbane and Taipei.
The airport is situated eight miles (13km) southwest of Denpasar and one and a half miles (2.5km) south of Kuta.
Getting to the city
Bus services leave regularly for Denpasar city centre and the main holiday resorts, including Kuta. Metered taxis are available and passengers should insist that the driver uses a meter, even if he claims it is broken.

Situated on the island of Java, just west of Jakarta, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SHIA) is an important regional aerial hub and a popular international entry point to Indonesia. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is the 16th busiest airport worldwide and in 2010 SHIA served 44 million passengers.
With three terminals housing many passenger amenities including restaurants, cafés, shops and duty-free zones, SHIA is set to expand even further to include a fourth terminal building and a general refurbishment of all existing terminals. This constant development ensures that SHIA is always striving to offer passengers as smooth an experience as possible.
The airport is situated 12 miles (20km) northwest of Jakarta.
Getting to the city
Shuttle buses run hourly to the city centre and various other destinations in and around Jakarta. Taxis are metered and cost around Rp 30,000 to the city; note that road tolls may be added to the fare.
Local time is GMT +7.
