The climate of Kuwait is subtropical but arid, summers (between May and October) in particular being very hot and dry, temperatures ranging above 100°F (40°C). Summertime is also prone to sand storms, known as the 'shamal'. The most pleasant months to travel to Kuwait are in winter, between November and April, when days are warm and sunny, although at night temperatures plummet and can be close to freezing. Rain is rare, but most falls between November and April.
