The climate of Pakistan varies according to altitude, but is generally subtropical. There are four main seasons. Winter, between December to February, is dry and cool, while summer, from March to May, is hot but still dry. Between June and September southwesterly monsoon rains are experienced, followed by the northeasterly monsoons in October and November. Except for the mountains in the north, temperatures are warm to high throughout the year, the Indus Valley being the hottest region with temperatures peaking at 100ºF (40ºC) or higher during summer.
