Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport (ARN)

Overview

Generally known as Arlanda Airport, the Stockholm Arlanda Airport is one of the largest and busiest air hubs in Sweden. It is located just north of Stockholm, close to a town called Märsta.

There are four terminals at Arlanda, two of which serve international flights and the other two serve domestic flights. SkyCity, connects the domestic and international terminals and also houses a number of restaurants and retail outlets. With over 17 million passengers using the airport in 2010, Arlanda is incredibly user-friendly and well-equipped with efficient and helpful staff. It is also well-connected with other airports in the region and has a range of public transport options for onward travel within Sweden.

Location

The airport is situated 28 miles (45km) north of Stockholm.

Getting to the city

For those travelling to and from the airport there are many alternative modes of transport including high-speed trains (Arlanda Express) and airport coaches/buses (Flygbussarna), as well as commuter and long-distance trains. Long-distance SJ trains leave from Arlanda Central Station, where the SJ railway company offers long-distance train tickets and schedule information. The Arlanda Express train to Stockholm Central station runs every 15 minutes between 5.35am and 11.35pm daily. Buses go to the city every 10 minutes between 6.40am and 11.05pm each day, taking 40 minutes to make the journey. Taxis and rental cars are also available.

Göteborg-Landvetter International Airport (GOT)

Overview

Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport is a small but efficient airport with a reputation for quick and hassle-free travel. Located 13 miles (20km) southeast of Gothenburg, the facility is the second-largest airport in Sweden, processing more than 4.1 million passengers each year.

The airport has a Domestic and an International Terminal, however all check-in processing happens in the International Terminal for screening purposes. The two terminals are connected by a transfer area with several shops, cafes and one restaurant, as well as internet kiosks.

Flights to Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport are available from cities all over Europe and the Middle East, including London, Paris, Berlin, Damascus, Helsinki, Tehran, Amsterdam, Barcelona, the Canary Islands, Budapest and Istanbul; there are also a few seasonal routes to destinations like Cancun.

The airport is located 15 miles (24km) east of Gothenburg.

Getting to the city

An airport bus departs every 15 minutes (in peak hours) to the city centre; a local bus network is also available. Tickets are available from self-service machines or on the bus.

Malmö-Sturup Airport (MMX)

Location

The airport is situated 17.4 mi (28 km) from Malmö.

Getting to the city

There are regular buses to downtown Malmö, Lund and Copenhagen from Malmö Airport. Many local hotels also provide shuttle service.

Linkoping City Airport (LPI)

Location

Linkoping City Airport is two miles (3km) east of central Linkoping.

Getting to the city

Trains and buses are available to Linkoping Travel Centre, which is near the airport. Otherwise, bus route 16 connects the airport to the city directly.

The airport is located 15 miles (24km) from Örnsköldsvik city centre.
