The climate in Trinidad and Tobago is tropical, with the average maximum temperature reaching 89°F (32°C). The surrounding ocean modifies temperatures and Tobago tends to be somewhat cooler than Trinidad, due to the more constant northeast trade winds experienced on the island. The wet season runs from June to December, while the dry season is from January to May, with the warmest weather occurring in July and the coolest in January. Most of Trinidad and Tobago experiences an average rainfall of about 40 inches (200cm) and the islands lie just south of the hurricane belt.
