Istanbul Ataturk International Airport (IST)
Location: The airport is situated 15 miles (23km) west of Istanbul.Time: GMT +2 (GMT +3 from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October).Contacts: Tel: +90 212 463 3000.Transfer between terminals: Walking through the metro access tunnel only takes 10 minutes. Shuttle buses and taxis are also available.Getting to the city: The Istanbul Metro system provides quick and easy access to the city, including the intercity bus terminal. Tickets cost around TRY 1.30. Use metro station Zeytinburnu and transfer to a tram to reach the Eminonu ferry or Sea Bus docks. The airport Havas Bus leaves from the Departures terminal gate and connects to Taksim Square or Kozyatagi. Shuttle buses depart from 4am to 1am, and take 40 minutes into the city. Taxis are also available and cost roughly $20 into downtown. Taxi rates are 50 percent higher between midnight and 6am.Car rental: Car rental companies include Avis, Budget, Hertz, Alamo, National and Sixt.Airport Taxis: The Istanbul Ataturk Airport is 15 miles (23km) west of Istanbul and takes around thirty minutes to reach Taksim Square. Fees depend largely on the destination in Istanbul but should be around US$20. Rates are as much as fifty percent higher at night. Cafes, a variety of take-aways and a pub offer snacks, meals and drinks. There are also good facilities available for those with special needs.Parking: There are two parking lots near the terminals with long and short-term parking options. Travel time is 50 minutes. Trains also service the airport and leave from the International terminal to the Basmane train station in the city, but these are usually only in the afternoons. Taxis are also available for around YTL 20-30.Car rental: Car rental companies include Avis, Hertz, National, Europcar and Sixt, as well as other local car hire companies.Facilities: Foreign exchange can be found in both Arrivals and Departures. Shops are available, including duty free, and cafes, restaurants and bars exist throughout the terminal building. Other facilities include public telephones, a post office, ATM, hairdresser, tourist information and hotel reservations. Facilities for those with special needs are good.Parking: Parking at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport is charged at YTL 7.50 for the first hour, YTL 10,50 for up to three hours, and YTL 25.50 for 12-24 hours. The trip to the central bus station in Bodrum costs about €3. HAVAS coaches operate from the domestic terminal are timed with Turkish Airlines flights to and from Istanbul. There are plenty of airport taxis available; their rates are fixed and generally quite fair.Car rental: Hertz, Avis and Europcar have rental desks at the airport.Airport Taxis: There is a rate board at the terminals which shows current fares to 44 cities and towns in the region. Tickets are TL 18 for the 40 minute trip.Car rental: Rental companies operating at the airport include National Alamo, Sixt, Payless, Central, Hertz, Europcar, Nord Travel, Budget, Avis and Bostanci.Airport Taxis: Taxis can be found outside the arrivals section of the airport. Fares into Istanbul cost approximately TL 90, passengers have to pay highway and brigde tolls as well.Facilities: The airport has ATMs, shops, restaurants, a first aid centre, pharmacies, a prayer room, hair salon, shoeshine stand and meeting facilities.
