Year round, Venezuela has a pleasant climate, due to its situation just above the equator. The country's tropical climate is influenced by altitude and Venezuela has four climatic zones - the coastal plains, valleys and central prairies of the Tierra Caliente, the lower mountain slopes and plateaux of the Tierra Templada, the sub-alpine mountain zone of the Tierra Fria and The Paramos, which lies above the timberline. Each zone varies in rainfall and temperature, according to altitude. The capital of Venezuela, Caracas, experiences a temperature range of 75°F to 81°F (24°C to 27°C) all year round. The wet season is between May and September, meaning that the best time to visit is the dry season (September to April), though due to rains, the Angel Falls are rendered most spectacular towards the end of the wet season.
